The Archival Producers Alliance is working to raise awareness about the thorny issues inherent in using generative AI in documentary film. Our group is concerned with how generative  AI creates works (such as photo-realistic images, audio, etc.) that are indistinguishable from true historical material. We are considering what the impact of using this fake ‘archival’ will have (and is already having) on our craft.
